GO FOR A WALK

GO FOR A WALK

The Solutré and Vergisson rocks

No stay here is complete without discovering the rocks. We like to visit early in the morning or at dusk, when the light softens. Climbing to Solutré and continuing towards Vergisson offers some of the finest views over the vineyards – a landscape we never tire of seeing.

Starting from Fuissé

Many waymarked trails suitable for everyone start in the village. One of our favourite routines is to set off behind the church, cross the vines and watch the changing light on the hillsides. We often take this walk with our dogs.

The Voie Verte

Just a few minutes from Maison Vitis, the Voie Verte follows a former railway line. We love how accessible it is: cycle to Cluny, pass through villages and glimpse the rocks in the distance. It is another way to discover the region.

From Château de Pierreclos to the Cluny area

Sometimes our recommendation is simply… to go for a drive. Leave the vineyards for a few kilometres, cross green fields and then woodland, and head towards the Cluny area with a stop at Château de Pierreclos. Even on rainy days, these landscapes have a calming quality.

Lac de Saint-Point

When the days grow warmer, we like coming here for a walk around the lake, a paddleboarding session or simply a pause beside the water. It remains pleasantly wild and discreet.

WANDER

WANDER

Cluny, our first favourite in the region

The Saturday-morning market is one of the experiences we recommend almost without exception. The atmosphere remains friendly, producers take time to talk and the stalls tell the story of the region.
We also enjoy wandering through the streets, visiting the abbey or extending the day on a terrace. In summer, the equestrian shows at the Haras nationaux have a special magic.

Mâcon

We enjoy coming to Mâcon simply to walk with no fixed destination. The town has changed considerably in recent years and is now more pleasant to explore on foot without losing its accessible feel. Parking is easy before walking to the renovated Quai Lamartine, lively squares or colourful little streets in the centre.

Cormatin and its château

We enjoy the journey as much as the destination: crossing the rolling countryside, making a few unplanned stops and then discovering the château gardens. Simply take your time.

Brancion
A small hilltop medieval village, with ancient stone, quiet lanes and the feeling of travelling back in time.

EAT WELL

EAT WELL

Ô Des Vignes – Fuissé

Our favourite, just a few minutes from the house. A gastronomic restaurant with a bistro side, a lovely terrace, an excellent wine list and precise cooking that never feels intimidating. We also love the story of the place: its chef, Sébastien, once lived at Maison Vitis. Remember to book.

Chez Sissi – Cluny

Family cooking, a warm atmosphere and an authentic interior. We return for the service and excellent value for money.

Le Caveau du Figuier – Cormatin

Wine bar, cellar and gathering place. We like to stop here after visiting the château, share a platter and discover a few bottles.

La Ferme des Coteaux – Tézé

On the way to Cormatin, stop at this address, which we often recommend for its goat’s cheese.

TASTE

TASTE

Living here means being at home between two wine regions: the white wines of the Mâconnais and the reds of Beaujolais. We love how easy it is to move from one world to the other.
Our advice: open the doors of the estates, even the most discreet ones. Winegrowers offer a warm welcome, and the encounters are often just as memorable as the tastings.

Our favourites:

Camille Giroux

For precise wines and an excellent Saint-Amour.

Sandrine Christophe Thibert

For her pétillant naturel and older vintages that reveal the stature of the Mâconnais terroirs.

Sophie Cinier

For her unexpected Pinot Noir-based Mâcon rouge.

Maison mâconnaise des vins – Mâcon

A place we often recommend to friends and family who want to discover the richness of the local appellations.

L’Atrium – Solutré-Pouilly

When time is too short to visit several individual cellars, we often recommend L’Atrium. This collective tasting cellar brings together all the winegrowers of the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation – a wonderful way to discover the diversity of the region.
